“If you eat right, and you work out daily, and you get lots of sleep … you will die anyway. Now open the wine and cut the cake!” –Hallmark card received for my birthday
Good reminder that every day is a gift!
Gina Patti and Rob Oslyn traveled to the West Coast over Christmas break to meet the newest family member, Lucy Elizabeth Oslyn, who was born on Nov. 17. Parents Justin and Hannah are doing well, as Lucy patiently teaches them about parenting. Gina and Rob were ecstatic to hold their first grandbaby, and also had the opportunity to visit Gina’s sister and other West Coast family.
Heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Island recording artist, producer, poet, husband, father, and friend John Forte, who died suddenly and too young on Jan. 12 at his home in Chilmark.
Save the date for a fun night of Bingo at the P.A. Club on Thursday, Jan. 29, to support the M.V. Center for Living. The wonderful people there provide support services for people dealing with dementia and their caregivers. It is just $25 at the door for your Bingo cards to compete for prizes; there will be food and drink to purchase and a raffle with more prizes.
Save another date for a very popular event at the Oak Bluffs library. “Putts and Pints” is coming back on Saturday, Feb. 7. Play mini-golf throughout the library from 6 to 9 pm. Compete for prizes and enjoy light refreshments and beverages. Tickets are available at the library, just $18 each, or $30 for two. I would advise you to get your tickets ahead of time, as this event sells out. The evening is for adults 21-plus, but there will be mini-golf family time from 10 am to noon, and teen time from 3 to 5 pm. Proceeds benefit library programs, so come out for a great evening.
The library is offering a fun program at the YMCA for little ones. On Thursdays, bring kids ages 2-5 to the pool at the Y from 10 to 10:30 am for “Mermaid Tales: Story and Swim.” Enjoy stories and songs with Luna Tide, the O.B. mermaid.
The M.V. Family Center is also collaborating with the Y Aquatic Center to offer “Swim With Me” on Wednesday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 am. This is a great opportunity to get in the water with your little one, especially on a cold January morning! No registration needed, just sign in with the Family Center staff in the lobby.
