To the Editor:

The MV Times’ recent article (“Inspector general: SSA website ‘doomed from the start,’” Dec. 18) covering the Office of Inspector General report on the Steamship Authority says it all, and we agree!

We applaud Sen. Julian Cyr [and] Reps. Dylan Fernandes and Thomas Moakley for their strong admonishment of the SSA management team and board members in light of the alarming revelations in the inspector general’s report. We encourage the Massachusetts legislature to further evaluate the SSA’s governance and identify ways to improve oversight of a significant public resource. We implore our legislators to follow the IG recommendation of establishing a special legislative commission, comprising the Authority’s Cape and Islands and New Bedford delegations, the transportation committee co-chairs, and others based on the findings of the report, to review the Enabling Act of the Authority, and determine whether the governance structure needs to be overhauled.
